Muumuu and Miu Miu

May 22, 2018

When I stumbled upon a pair of Miu Miu Cinderella shoes on eBay that were actually within my price range I was amazed. They were practically new and had an “or best offer option”, so I offered 50% of their asking. It never hurts to explore your options. My offer was accepted and just like that, a pair of Miu Miu Cinderella shoes were mine!

When the shoes arrived they were still in the box. Even the Miu Miu branded tissue paper was still delicately folded over them.  The heels weren’t too high and there was a purplish ombre shading at the base of the heel that discretely hid the screws.  The shape was modern and classic at the same time and they had a floral quality about them that I am often drawn to. They were breathtaking.

While still feeling euphoric about my serendipitous find I ran into my friend Rindi, owner of Capture Boutique. She gets to travel frequently and loves searching for treasures along the way to bring back to her vintage oasis on Gay Street in Knoxville, TN. It was then she showed me a picture of one of her latest acquisitions, a vintage Christian Dior dressing gown. The sheer gown was a creamy off white and covered with a pattern that looked like poppy blossoms. It had ruffles partly down the front and gathered shoulders that lent itself to a forties silhouette. The two were perfect for one another.

I added a pair of Mango earrings that once again looked floral but had a modern component to them to keep things interesting. For some of the looks I switched out the earrings for a vintage straw hat I bought off Etsy some time ago. It’s starting to fall apart, but I love how Caroline Trotter captured the delicate holes in the brim creating dappled starbursts of light like a halo.

Last, but certainly not least, I chose a vintage Japanese bamboo picnic basket for my handbag. Bags like these are certainly popular and therefore can be expensive but if you keep searching on eBay or Etsy you can still find some that are reasonably priced. For functionality, you can use any drawstring bag of your choice to actually hold the contents of what you’re carrying for the day. It could be a dust bag from a pair of shoes you already own, or you can easily find the designer dust bag of your choice sold separately for cheap on eBay. On a side note, I don’t think it’s necessary to wear designer labels as a status symbol but I do think it’s an approach to expressing yourself. If I choose to use a Fendi or Dolce and Gabbana dust bag for my purse I feel like it’s a way of me saying, “Hey, I really like these designer’s aesthetics and think their creations are really beautiful.”

I really love how piece by piece the different aspects of this look fell together. I think this outfit will go down as one of my favorites.  I’ve linked some similar items to the ones from my shoot in the pictures below.

The Mango earrings are linked above but here are some others from Zara and here are a couple that can be found at Smart & Becker.

Here are several listings of similar bags. If the listings have ended when you read this don’t forget to look for a relisted button or search for related items!
