I love a good sweater dress. They’re a perfect way to look put together and still stay comfortable during the cooler months or during those first few weeks of spring when temperatures don’t seem to match the scenery quit yet. Due to their knit material there’s less concern about the uncertainty of sizing and fit when shopping online as they can give and move to hug all your curves. And if it ends up being a little too big you can cinch them in with a belt to create more shape. A lot of dresses that were made in this style are an Angora blend so they feel cozy and luxurious.
Like many of my favorite pieces I found it by accident while using a very general search of “vintage sweater dresses” on eBay. This piece stood out among the rest with its electric bolts of pastel colors. And who doesn’t love a dress with shoulder pads?! Anyone? Beuller. . . ? Ok, well I do.
Due to its white back drop and variety of accent colors this dress offers a lot of possibilities when it comes to accessorizing. I’ve had these lavender button clip ons for years and they don’t murder my earlobes so they were an obvious choice for me but you could easily wear a pale yellow, baby blue or pastel pink instead.
To contrast with the pastels I went with a vintage red “genuine” leather belt from eBay and matching Cynthia Rowley Aspen pumps. These shoes are super comfortable and I love their classic 80’s silhouette. They’re the kind of shoe you can throw on and make a jeans and T-shirt look like a composed ensemble.
I think the ship has sailed here in Tennessee on wearing sweater dresses for the remainder of the spring, but it doesn’t mean you and I can’t keep our eyes peeled for some beauties to wear this fall and next year.
I’ve linked some similar items from this shoot throughout the pictures below. Hope you enjoy and thanks for stopping by!
